Facebook Testing Find WiFi Feature
Some users of Facebook’s flagship iOS application are part of a test of a new feature enabling them to locate nearby WiFi networks.
Bryan Clark of The Next Web reported on the test, and Facebook confirmed it to Raymond Wong of Mashable, saying:
To help people stay connected to the friends and experiences they care about, we are rolling out a new feature that surfaces open WiFi networks associated with nearby places. The feature is currently being tested in select countries.
Clark reported that Facebook had been asking pages to list whether their businesses offered WiFi at their respective physical locations, and he speculated that this is where Facebook is getting its information on where WiFi networks are located.
