Instagram Now Has More Than 400 Million Users

Instagram, the popular Facebook-owned social network on a meteoric rise, has hit yet another milestone. As of latest, the photo-sharing platform has just managed to hit 400 million users. That is more than what Twitter has.

“We are thrilled to announce that the Instagram community has grown to more than 400 million strong,” the announcement reads on the official Instagram blog. “While milestones like this are important, what really excites us is the way that visual communication makes the world feel a little bit smaller to every one of us.”

What’s more is that the growth hasn’t been limited to developed markets only. As much as 75 percent of the population using the network lives outside the US, while of the last 100 million people to join the network, over half come from Europe and Asia.

As of now, 80 million photographs are uploaded on Instagram every day. A few recent “inspiring moments” include the first ever image of the Pluto surface and the Champions League celebrations. A few noted celebrities have joined the service in recent months, further contributing to its growth; the most-followed account remains that of former England and Real Madrid/MUFC/LA Galaxy star David Beckham.

Instagram’s potential was realized by Facebook in 2012, which brought the 13-employee company for $1 billion. As the numbers are indicating now, the deal might actually have been a steal for it.
